Learning the Model for Improvement

We believe that healthcare, especially quality improvement professionals, could supercharge their efforts by integrating Design Thinking. In this course, we teach the foundational components of quality improvement. We use the Model for Improvement, Design Thinking tools, and visual canvases. These tools help people focus, align, and nurture creativity. Combining them with a clear improvement plan can spark meaningful change and more effective systems.

By the end of the course, participants will have the knowledge and tools to drive improvement in their organization through Design Thinking.

QIST goals

Have a full understanding of the Model for Improvement (MFI)

The MFI is considered the foundational basis for all major improvement methodologies in the healthcare space. With operational knowledge of the MFI you can tackle unique problems in your organization.

Be equipped with the knowledge to use the MFI, and the tools provided, to guide your quality improvement projects moving forward

Throughout this course, we will practice Human-Centered Design principles. We will challenge you to apply the concepts you learn to the problems of your organization in real-time. Equipped with a toolkit of visual canvases, you will apply new lessons as you progress.

Have a completed Project Charter form

By the final lesson, you will have a completed Project Charter form. This form is your executive one-pager, teeing up your aim, how you will measure it, and how you will get there. Alongside the visual canvases, this form will be available for download so can continue applying this methodology to new problems.

The Objective

This is the objective section. Here, we clearly state why we were hired, what the goals are, what the metrics for success are, and what the macro impact of the project is. Questions to remember: Why is this work important to this company? What do they have to gain? Lose? What have they lost already by not tackling this issue?
GET SPECIFIC. Do not attempt to vaguely market toward other businesses.
