This event started with the idea to bring together the worlds of quality improvement and advocacy. Legislators want to improve healthcare for your state, and you’re at the forefront. Let’s leverage your position to help state legislators understand the important quality improvement work in your member hospitals.

Extensive planning sessions with your internal team, Capitol staff and member hospitals.

A digital compendium capturing all of your member hospital’s improvement stories.

A custom-designed poster for each participating hospital to showcase at the Capitol and take back to their hospital.
Quality
The first step is deciding your story as an association. We will work with your team to identify what stories are hot topics for clinicians or legislators. Lives saved, cost savings, and patient and family impact are a few of the metrics we leaned on in Illinois. Posters will tell the hospital’s story to legislators on the day. We’ll also create a digital compendium in an effort to scale and spread best practices to your members across the state.
Advocacy
Our advocacy director spent ten years at the Illinois Health and Hospital Association, and there was no more impactful day than our Quality Advocacy Showcase days. We often coupled these days with our CEO advocacy day at the Capitol. This is an opportunity to have direct face time with member hospitals and state representatives. The presence of the member hospitals ensured the state representatives would show up for their photo opportunity. The presence of the state representatives ensured the hospitals would show up to tout their work. These conditions led to ideal GR and advocacy opportunities for our association staff. This created a new lane of influence for us, ensuring we would be back at the Capitol every year, demonstrating with data and QI how valuable our hospitals were to the state.
Showcase
We created swag, badges, buttons, flyers, memos, one-pagers. Our CEO led off each advocacy day with a rousing speech to the membership. When a hospital submitted a poster, we contacted their state representative, ensuring their staff knew the date and the time of the Quality Advocacy Showcase. We curated press releases for our members and contacted media outlets to ensure they covered the event for their local hospitals who participated. The Quality Advocacy Showcase is a true bottom-up event. This is a platform for your member hospitals they wouldn’t have without their state hospital association.
