Fostering Community Based Partnerships

Our partnership with BUILD Health

We assisted the de Beaumont Foundation’s BUILD Health team in their BUILD Health Challenge. BUILD Health works to strengthen partnerships between community-based organizations; community residents; local health departments; and hospitals, health systems, and health plans. Interdisciplinary coalitions all across the country are given resources and support to affect health equity in their communities.

BUILD describe the their 5 principles (Bold, Upstream, Integrated, Local, and Data-Driven) as “a powerful model that has the potential to transform community health and advance health equity.” We created 10 activities, 2 for each principle, to apply these concepts to coalitions’ real world work.

Tools to Convene & Align Community Coalitions

In 2019, we created a set of 5 activity worksheets for the BUILD Health Challenge, and assisted in launching those activities and creating supporting materials. In 2022, BUILD Health asked us to create an additional 5 tools to complement the originals.

In partnership with the BUILD Health Challenge team and with collaboration from Change Lab Solutions, we created an easy-to-use, thoughtful, and visually appealing set of tools that will be used to align teams and affect health equity by coalitions across the country.

We delivered...

Engagement of BUILD Health Challenge coalitions through 10 canvas-based activities.

Advice on how to facilitate the tools, tips on delivery through in-person and digital modalitites

A custom designed set of visual tool for capturing complex conversations in virtual or in-person settings.

Stronger strategies for aligning as a team and driving change based on participants’ ideas.

Visual design of all canvases and supporting materials, including original illustration.

Motion design and voice-over coaching of past BUILD participants to create 10 explanation videos of all tools.

The Tools

We created two activities for each BUILD principle–one to introduce the principle and one to dig deeper. These tools were designed in a way that all 10 could be completed sequentially as a new coalition forms and works to set goals and boundaries, or completed individually based on the needs of the team. We are proud of these original bespoke tools and the application they will have in community health, and are fortunate to have partnered with BUILD Health to provide thought leadership around activating community-based partnerships through engaging activities!

BUILD Health Video Guides

In order to ease the delivery of these tools and allow for autonomous facilitation, we created a facilitator’s guide for each tool, and translated those guides into videos to show how to use each tool and give tips and tricks. We were fortunate enough to have past BUILD awardees do our voice-overs, and we had a great time coaching them through that process!

Talk with Do Tank about Powering your Community Collaborations

Our work with BUILD Health is one of many examples of Community Partnership work that we have done. Do Tank was twice the plenary workshop designer for the Association for Community Health Improvement conference, has led many collaboratives around storytelling for the Hospital Community Cooperative, and partnered with many other great organizations. We would love to chat and share that work with you!

The Objective

This is the objective section. Here, we clearly state why we were hired, what the goals are, what the metrics for success are, and what the macro impact of the project is. Questions to remember: Why is this work important to this company? What do they have to gain? Lose? What have they lost already by not tackling this issue?
GET SPECIFIC. Do not attempt to vaguely market toward other businesses.
